Early Life and Background

John Ighodaro, popularly known by his stage name Johnny Drille, was born on July 5, 1990, in Edo State, Nigeria. Raised in a Christian family, Johnny grew up surrounded by music. His father, a school principal and clergyman, nurtured his early love for gospel music.

He began singing in the church choir, where he also learned to play instruments. His passion for music followed him into adulthood, and he later studied English and Literature at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), where he continued to develop his craft.

Musical Journey and Breakthrough

Johnny Drille first caught public attention in 2013 when he auditioned for MTN Project Fame West Africa (Season 6). Though he did not win, the platform gave him exposure and the confidence to pursue a career in music.

In 2015, he released a cover of “Awww” by Di’Ja, which caught the attention of Don Jazzy, CEO of Mavin Records. Impressed by his unique sound, Don Jazzy signed Johnny Drille to Mavin Records in 2017, officially kickstarting his mainstream career.
