Early Roots & Education
Samson Uche Mogekwu—professionally known as Samsong—was born on November 30, 1974, in Delta State, Nigeria . Growing up as the seventh of nine children, he discovered his singing talent during high school, where he also adopted the nostalgic stage name Samsong . After secondary school, he pursued a degree in Accounting at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma .
Transition from Finance to Music
Initially working in banking—including the Central Bank of Nigeria and Golf Bank—Samsong was once intent on becoming the Governor of the CBN. However, this ambition gave way to his true calling: gospel music .
The Birth of a Gospel Career
In 1991, he co-founded a gospel quartet named Praise Creation, which released the album Best of Life in 1996 under Ivory Music Label . After the group disbanded, Samsong launched his solo career with his debut album, Count Your Blessings, in 2002. The album brought widespread acclaim and earned him The Psalmist Award that year .

Still Counting (2004): Earned him Best Male Vocalist of the Year at Today's Music Awards and The Amen Awards in 2005, plus Best Video of the Year at the Vigoma Awards .
The World of My Dreams (2007): Featured duets with Onyeka Onwenu (reimagining her classic “One Love”) and Styl-Plus on “Live Right.” He also received the Grace Honorary Award for Excellence .

In 2008, Samsong gained international recognition with a nomination for Best Gospel Artist at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) in New York . He toured extensively, performing in South Africa, the UK, and Germany, collaborating with German gospel producer Chris Lass . One of the most memorable moments of his touring career occurred in August 2009, when he performed in Seychelles and was warmly received by the nation’s Vice President, Joseph Belmont .
Beyond gospel, Samsong has shared stages with legendary artists like Marvin Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Panam Percy Paul, as well as R&B and Afropop stars such as Donell Jones, Kenny Lattimore, 112, 2Face Idibia, D’Banj, Faze, and Styl-Plus .

In 2019, Samsong earned another win at the LIMA Awards, taking home Best Video of the Year for his vibrant single “E dey work” . Over nearly three decades, he has maintained a consistent presence in gospel music, and his style—a fusion of contemporary gospel and R&B—continues to resonate with audiences .
Personal Life & Values
Samsong is married and a father (the couple reportedly blessed with three children) . He is deeply committed to his Christian faith and is known for valuing the serenity and stability that Abuja offers—especially important for raising a family while staying creatively productive . He also founded Boogie Down Concept, a gospel music label aimed at grooming emerging gospel artists in Nigeria .
