Early Life & Education
Joseph Oscar Nii Armah Mettle, widely known as Joe Mettle, was born on July 5, 1981, in Accra, Ghana . The eldest of six children born to Florence Addo and Emmanuel Mettle, he pursued early education at Richard Akwei Memorial School, Kade 1&2 Primary, St. Michael's and All Angels, and Korle Gonno 3 JHS. He later attended His Majesty Academy, studied draftsmanship at MODESCO, and graduated from Pentecost University College .
Musical Beginnings & Breakthrough
Joe's journey into music began as a backing vocalist for revered Ghanaian gospel artists such as Cindy Thompson, the late Danny Nettey, and Reverend Tom Bright Davies . He also served as lead singer for the multicultural group Soul Winners .
The turning point came in 2017, when he made history by becoming the first gospel musician to win the VGMA (Vodafone Ghana Music Awards) Artiste of the Year, alongside wins for Gospel Artiste and Male Vocalist categories .

Joe Mettle is celebrated for his authentic blend of gospel with rich African melodies. His notable hit singles include “Mehia wo Yesu” (I Need You Jesus), “Nhyira” (Blessing), “Medɔ Wo” (I Love You), “Akokyem Nyame”, “Mensuro” (I Will Not Fear), “Turning Around”, “Yesu Adi Nkunim” (Christ is Victorious), and “Ɔnwanwani” (God of Wonders) .

Ministry & Leadership
In 2007, Joe founded Joe Mettle Ministries, which hosts two signature annual events: Praiz Reloaded (mid-year) and Lovegift (every December) . He also manages Reverb Studios in Accra—a hub for rehearsal, recording, and artist consulting .
International Stage & Collaborations
Joe has performed widely, sharing stages with gospel giants like Donnie McClurkin, Nathaniel Bassey, Ntokozo Mbambo, and Michael Stuckey . He appeared on South Africa's Gospel Classics TV show and was honored as Best Male Gospel Artiste in Africa at the Trumpet Gospel Awards, South Africa .
Awards & Recognition
Beyond his landmark 2017 VGMA wins, Joe Mettle has earned over ten accolades across Ghana and internationally, including awards from Africa Gospel Music Awards, African Gospel Awards (UK), CCML Ghana Gospel Awards, Bass Awards, and RIGA Awards (South Africa) .
In 2023, his project The Kadosh was nominated for Best Gospel Song of the Year at the VGMA . He also received Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2025 recognition as Best Gospel Artiste and Best Male Vocalist .
Personal Life
Joe tied the knot with Salomey Selassie Dzisa through a traditional ceremony in Accra on August 13, 2020, followed by an official wedding in Tema on August 15, 2020 .
