Early Life and Background
Oluwatobi Wande Ojosipe, professionally known as Wande Coal, was born on October 18, 1985, in Lagos State, Nigeria. He grew up in a middle-class family and attended Staff Nursery and Primary School, Ijanikin, before proceeding to Federal Government College, Lagos.
Later, he studied Curriculum Studies at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he became actively involved in music, starting as a dancer before transitioning into singing.
Musical Career and Breakthrough
Wande Coal began his career as a dancer in the early 2000s, performing at shows and events across Lagos. His life changed when he joined Mo’Hits Records in 2006, co-founded by Don Jazzy and D’banj.
He gained instant recognition with his feature on D’banj’s hit single “Why Me”. In 2009, Wande Coal released his debut album “Mushin 2 Mo’Hits”, which became a massive success and is still regarded as one of the greatest Nigerian albums of all time.
Songs like “Bumper to Bumper,” “You Bad” ft. D’banj, and “Taboo” made him a household name and cemented his position as one of Afrobeats’ pioneers.
After the Mo’Hits split in 2012, Wande Coal moved to Mavin Records under Don Jazzy before later launching his own imprint, Black Diamond Entertainment, where he continues to release chart-topping hits.
