Early Life and Background
Panshak Henry Zamani, popularly known as Ice Prince, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter born on October 30, 1986, in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria. He hails from Plateau State and spent most of his childhood in the city of Jos, a place well known for producing some of Nigeria’s finest music talents.
Ice Prince attended St. Murumba College, Jos, and later studied Zoology at the University of Jos, though he left school early to focus on his music career. His love for rap started during his teenage years, heavily inspired by hip-hop legends from the U.S. as well as the vibrant Nigerian music culture around him.
Early Career and Breakthrough
In 2002, Ice Prince began writing rap songs and performing at local shows in Jos. He teamed up with other talented musicians, including MI Abaga, Jesse Jagz, and Djinee, and together they formed the Loopy Crew. His association with Chocolate City, one of Nigeria’s biggest record labels, became the launchpad for his career.
Ice Prince gained mainstream attention after featuring on MI Abaga’s hit track “Blaze” in 2009. His unique rap style and lyrical depth quickly made him stand out.
Rise to Fame
His big break came in 2010 with the release of “Oleku”, featuring Brymo. The song became one of the most remixed and covered tracks in Nigeria, establishing Ice Prince as one of the leading rappers of his generation.
Following the success of Oleku, Ice Prince released his debut studio album, “Everybody Loves Ice Prince” (2011), which solidified his position in the Nigerian music industry.
