Early Life and Background

Ahmed Ololade, popularly known by his stage name Asake, is a Nigerian Afrobeat and Afropop singer and songwriter born on January 13, 1995, in Lagos State, Nigeria. He hails from the Yoruba ethnic group and grew up in a culturally rich environment that influenced his music style.

Asake studied Theatre and Performing Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State. His deep passion for music started in his teenage years, but he first gained attention as a dancer and instrumentalist before fully diving into singing.

Early Career

Asake’s journey into music began with covers and freestyle videos shared on social media. His breakthrough came in 2020 when he released the hit single “Mr Money”, a track that earned him the nickname Mr Money. The song’s street vibes and catchy rhythm made it an anthem across Nigeria.

He later followed up with remixes of Mr Money featuring Zlatan Ibile and Peruzzi, which further boosted his recognition in the Nigerian music scene.

Rise to Fame

Asake’s career skyrocketed in February 2022 when he got signed to YBNL Nation, the record label owned by Nigerian rap legend Olamide. His first release under the label, “Omo Ope” featuring Olamide, became a massive hit and marked his official breakthrough.

In the same year, he dropped his debut EP, “Ololade Asake”, which featured chart-topping songs like Omo Ope, Sungba, and Trabaye. The remix of Sungba with Burna Boy became one of the biggest Afrobeat collaborations of 2022.

Later in September 2022, Asake released his debut studio album, “Mr. Money With The Vibe”, which included hit singles such as Terminator, Peace Be Unto You (PBUY), and Organise. The album debuted at No. 66 on the Billboard 200 chart, making Asake one of the few Nigerian artists to achieve this feat with a debut album.
