Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, professionally known as Ayra Starr, was born on June 14, 2002, in Cotonou, Benin Republic. She hails from Kwara State, Nigeria, and grew up in a close-knit Christian family.

Ayra Starr spent her early years between Cotonou and Lagos, Nigeria, where she developed a love for music, influenced by artists like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Shakira, and Angelique Kidjo. She attended Les Cours Sonou University in Benin, where she studied International Relations and Political Science.

Journey into Music

Before fully pursuing music, Ayra Starr worked as a fashion model, signing with Quove Model Management in Lagos at the age of 16. She appeared in several fashion campaigns but always nurtured her passion for singing.

In December 2019, she began posting covers of popular songs on Instagram, which caught the attention of music lovers. Her breakthrough came when Don Jazzy, the CEO of Mavin Records, discovered her talent and signed her to the label in 2020.
