Samsung Galaxy Z Tripold — Foldable Power that Turns a Pocket Phone into a 10″ Workstation

What is the Galaxy Z Tripold

Samsung Electronics has just introduced the Galaxy Z Tripold — a cutting-edge foldable smartphone that transforms into a tablet-sized workstation at a touch. When folded, it measures just 164.8 mm (6.5"), making it easy to carry in a jeans pocket or small handbag.

Once unfolded, the Tripold reveals a large 253 mm (≈10") display, offering a workspace akin to a tablet or compact laptop — ideal for writing documents, navigating maps, editing photos, or running multiple apps simultaneously.

Design and Hardware Highlights

The Tripold features an in-folding structure: the screen folds inward twice — a compact design that recalls Samsung’s earlier foldable innovation, but pushed to a new form factor.

When folded, it has a thickness of 12.9 mm; when unfolded, just 3.9 mm — even slimmer than previous foldable models.

Internally, it’s powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform and runs with 16 GB RAM + 512 GB storage, delivering the performance expected of a high-end device.

For photography, it sports a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera, bringing flagship-level imaging to a foldable form factor.

The hinge — dubbed “Armor Flex Hinge” — is engineered for durability: Samsung says it passed more than 200,000 folding tests, equivalent to roughly five years of daily use assuming 100 folds per day.

Productivity on the Go — Multitasking, Dex, and More

One of Tripold’s standout features is its multitasking capability. When unfolded, users can run up to three apps simultaneously side-by-side, for example, a browser, a document editor, and a gallery. Add a fourth “floating” window, and you’re effectively using four apps at once — an experience akin to using multiple smartphones or a compact desktop.

Moreover, Tripold supports tablet-mode Samsung DeX — a first for a Galaxy smartphone. Connected to an external monitor, it can project multiple windows and simulate a PC-like desktop environment, making it practical for serious work even while mobile.

For business travel, meetings, or on-the-go work, Tripold doubles as a laptop substitute — perfect for presenting slides, reviewing documents, or editing multimedia without carrying a separate laptop.

Availability and Price

The Galaxy Z Tripold will be released initially in a single configuration (16 GB RAM, 512 GB storage) and in “Crafted Black” color, priced at 3.59 million won (South Korean won). Sales begin on December 12 in Korea, with planned expansion into markets including China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the U.S.

Why It Matters — Big Screen, Small Package

The Galaxy Z Tripold represents a milestone in foldable-device evolution. It delivers the portability of a smartphone with the screen real estate and multitasking power of a tablet or laptop.

For professionals and power users, it offers a real alternative to carrying a bulky laptop.

For creatives, it enables on-the-go editing and content creation without compromising power or screen space.

For everyday users, it blends convenience and versatility — a phone that unfolds into a productivity hub.

In short: Tripold’s combination of portability, performance, and multitasking flexibility could redefine how we think about mobile computing in the foldable era.
