Nathaniel Bassey was born on August 27, 1981, in Lagos, Nigeria, to Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Bassey, who hail from Ikot Ofon Ikono in Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. He grew up in a Christian home and developed a passion for both music and the things of God at a young age.

He attended the University of Lagos, where he studied Urban and Regional Planning before furthering his studies in Music at the Middlesex University Summer School in London. His early exposure to music and deep faith laid the foundation for his career in gospel music.


Music Career

Nathaniel Bassey started his music journey playing the trumpet. He was part of the Steve Rhodes Orchestra, one of the top jazz groups in Nigeria at the time. Initially, Nathaniel leaned towards jazz and contemporary music, but as his spiritual journey deepened, he shifted fully into gospel music.
