Early Life and Background
Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, professionally known as Oxlade, is a Nigerian Afrobeat and Afropop singer and songwriter born on April 22, 1997, in Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria. He grew up with his grandmother after losing his mother at a young age.
Oxlade studied at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he pursued History and International Relations but later dropped out to focus on music. His passion for singing started in church, where he joined the choir and honed his vocal strength.
Early Career
Oxlade began his music career in 2018 when he released his first single Shugar, which received positive feedback online. His big break came after he collaborated with Blaqbonez on the song Mamiwota. This single brought him into the spotlight and opened doors for bigger collaborations.
In 2019, Oxlade’s career took a new turn when he featured on Fireboy DML’s Oxygene EP and gained recognition for his vocal mastery.
Rise to Fame
In March 2020, Oxlade released his debut EP titled “Oxygene”, a six-track project featuring British-Nigerian artist Moelogo. The EP included the hit single “Away”, which was listed by Rolling Stone as one of the 50 Best Songs of 2020.
